Operation and Maintenance of Vehicles Dedicated to Air Quality Monitoring for the Petrochemical Industry in Yunlin County, 2021

Absrtact
This project aims to maintain the regular operation of vehicles and equipment dedicated to air quality monitoring for the petrochemical industry. This goal is achieved through routine maintenance and QA/QC to ensure the accuracy of monitoring equipment and data quality. The second goal of this project is to understand the impacts of The No. 6 Naphtha Cracker Complex on regional air quality through data analysis. This information can be incorporated into policymaking strategies at the county level to improve air quality. Maintenance and quality assurance were performed on monitoring equipment at all levels according to a predetermined schedule. Most of the usability of monthly data from each device was over 80%. In recent years, in terms of the six indicator species (SO2, NO2, CO, O3, PM10, and PM2.5), pollution levels at the Xucuo Campus were shown a deteriorating trend for ozone, and the others were shown an improvement trend. At the Wengang Security Checkpoint, the high PM10 level was related to dust and sand raised by the strong sea breeze at this location. And the monthly average reached 98 μg/m3 in December 2021. Among the odor pollutants measured at the Xucuo Campus, hourly measurements of H2S tended to reach high levels under the northerlies. And high hourly levels of NH3 tended to occur during the periods under the influence of west-southerlies. At the Wengang Security Checkpoint, high hourly values of H2S tended to occur during the southerlies. Therefore, we suspect these pollutants are due to local aquaculture and stock farming. The high hourly values of NH3 tended to occur during the west-northerlies. The occurrence of NH3 is likely to be related to The No. 6 Naphtha Cracker Complex. The VOC analyzer can measure 74 types of volatile organic compounds. Monthly monitoring results indicate that about 50 to 60 types of species are commonly detected. Compared to other volatile organic compounds, toluene, ethane, ethylene, propane, and N-butane reached relatively high levels at the Xucuo Campus. The results of the Xucuo Campus show that during 2021, the level of ethane and propane were the highest that among these five most prominent species, at 4.77 ppbv and 3.33 ppbv. At the Wengang Security Checkpoint, however, the level of propane was the highest, at 10.34 ppbv.
